Competitive aeromodelling

Precision starts before the competition

Competitive aeromodelling is one of UAL’s foundational areas. It combines technical preparation of the aircraft, individual sporting skill, adaptation to environmental conditions and the ability to perform consistently under competition pressure.

UAL aims to provide an environment for different experience levels, from participants preparing for their first club competitions to established aeromodellers. The League’s role is not limited to events; it also supports a culture of regular practice, knowledge exchange and proper sporting conduct.

What matters

Four components of sporting performance

01

Athlete preparation

Performance begins long before the start: with regular practice, analysis of mistakes, discipline and an understanding of flying conditions.

02

Aircraft quality and setup

Precision of assembly, balancing, setup and technical condition directly affect the stability and predictability of flight.

03

Fair Play

Sporting results matter only within honest competition, clear rules, respect for competitors and proper officiating.

04

Safety

Every training session and competition should begin with an assessment of the site, equipment, weather, flying area and participant readiness.

Disciplines

Different ways to fly, one culture of preparation

UAL activity may include different classes and disciplines. For official events, applicable classes and rules are defined by the regulations of the specific competition.

Free Flight

A distinct model aviation discipline with its own equipment, preparation practices and competition formats.

Control Line

A distinct model aviation discipline with its own equipment, preparation practices and competition formats.

Radio-Controlled Aircraft

A distinct model aviation discipline with its own equipment, preparation practices and competition formats.

Soaring

A distinct model aviation discipline with its own equipment, preparation practices and competition formats.

Aerobatics

A distinct model aviation discipline with its own equipment, preparation practices and competition formats.

Scale Models

A distinct model aviation discipline with its own equipment, preparation practices and competition formats.

Electric Flight

A distinct model aviation discipline with its own equipment, preparation practices and competition formats.

FPV & Drone Sports

A distinct model aviation discipline with its own equipment, preparation practices and competition formats.

Training

From a first stable flight to competition

Training should be progressive. Participants first learn safe equipment handling, basic control principles and aircraft behaviour. Then come repeatable exercises, finer setup, work with weather conditions and training that increasingly resembles competition.

Analysis is an important part of progress. A mentor or more experienced athlete can help separate piloting error from technical problems, evaluate setup and structure the next training session around a specific goal.

Competitions

UAL Open and other competition formats

UAL Open is the League’s open sporting format. It can bring together participants of different experience levels in selected disciplines under event-specific regulations.

Youth categories

Special attention to youth categories, clear rules and a safe first competition experience.

Fair Play

Respect for competitors, rules and officiating as an essential part of sporting culture.

Knowledge exchange

Competitions are also a place to discuss equipment, setup and approaches among participants.
